so, the ride to Femme Fest was amazing. 1st night hosted by a cemetery , and the next few nights in dooley, plus one ad in the "city" summed up with a night behind the fire station where a very cool sheriff hooked me up (thanks!) He also wanted to tell me about the 2 schools and 1 hospital he helped to build in Iraq, and shared some of the positive experiences he had there. 290 miles round trip, and it felt like a tease being back on the bike playing shows. the Fest itself was loaded with talented artists and musicians from around the country. Live interview on "Charlotte Talks" WFAE was a great kick off to a full-filled wkend of fun. Billy really shows it best with his observations.

Takin it to the Streets, Charlotte
I've made it to Charlotte, North Carolina. This image was taken by my friend and gracious host
Billy Fehr . If you were listening to Charlotte Talks on WFAE, I also have a website www.rachelvanslyke.com and a myspace at www.myspace.com/rachelvanslyke where you can hear music and learn more.
135 miles ago, I was sitting at in my home on Red Clay Hill, picking the first peas off the vine and eating radishes. Yesterday was full of memories of a bike tour. It's a different thought process, and I am reminded of the programing we are committed to every day, and what it means to be a part of it all. There is no separation I realize, and I feel as if I am embracing each moment.
Sat. the 30th I will be a included in Charlotte's Femme Fest. Smelly Cat Coffee House at 5:45 and Green Rice at 7:00 .

Greenville SC Smileys show Rachel and Erik 2
Smiley's Acoustic Cafe in Greenville with Erik Lang from the Superficials out of Nashville. He was heading to the beach and I talked him into coming to Smiley's in Greenville and jamming some of his songs on stage. Great songwriter, Thanks for coming over Erik. Just a few months ago, I was in Nashiville and he was the host with most, showing me how to make fresh mozzarella AND crembule. All this plus 2 Nashville showcases - late night jamm extravaganza with band and friends.
