back in the states

can you imagine what this place feels like?

Spent the night in Plattsburg. Back in the states, ready for the Adirondaks!

It's been a while since I've been here. These small towns have culture, music, life, and rotation. Nothing stagnant in these plush woods

Montreal

Donna and I meet up, and she is a fabulous hostess - that I met in Vermont on the side of the road. I spent a relaxing time with her and her husband Alan. She was so thoughtful and real to me. In the morning she treated me to breakfast, and while I was in Montreal I hiked Mont Saint-Hilaire

the bridge i came in on
my friend performing magic in the streets of old montreal

I'm quite happy in a foreign place, and listening to a different language, one that I do not understand. I can depend on other senses for communication. There is more space.

almost there

I joked with these Providence touring cyclist who had just got back from Montreal

that's a border, off in the distance

Getting so close, most northern destination on the trip. Border town, miles away, a world of difference.

live from the kanc

This is unreal. I'm talking about the Kancamangus Highway through New Hampshire through the White Mountains. I'm talkin about Lost River Road. You must see it to believe it

Getting closer to the highway, i pulled of to sleep for the night. I slept hard beneath the shade of these trees hearing the sound rain all night.

I met this ranger at one of the overlooks. He had the light in his eyes of past adventures he took in bicycle touring.

burlington

Burlington's inviting festival

Lake Champlain

this festival was going on as I pulled into Burlington. Amazing. the children were so fun, we conversed with smiles and movement. Then the water. I had not been to Burlington since I went to see my uncle perform in Cotton Mathers at Nectors, opening for Hooty and the Blow Fish, over 10 years ago. A women working the compost pile here really inspired me to spread the word on it. I learned a lot about it, and Burlington had an efficient system for their community to use it. Great model.

Montpellier

Todd and I, farmer from TN I happen to meet in VT

Here's a thought funny thing about this picture is my friend Tanja took a photo of this bike too and it's on her blog. She was in this town more than a month after me on her own bicycle tour that she started in South America!!!!!!

mountains all around this town. I stayed at the top of a large hill. The night I performed was the night I met the hill, and the ride was invigorating. there was no one around, and fog hovered the black top. At one point I stopped, and my heart was pounding hard. The rhythm felt whole, synchronicity.

Here's my bike with tomato plants, see em behind the guitar?

After Todd had made a generous donation to me, I got some plants and went door to door passing them out in VT. It was wild. Spreading a cycle...

vermont

Osprey Nest. I sat in wonder that any creature could actually put their nest atop a power line. It was huge!

in the center of this photo is a moose, but you have to look deep to see it.

After 70 beautiful miles and just creeping into Vermont, I thought it was time to rest. I stumbled upon a very nice family. They had a great yard, and at the very edge was a special spot I felt was made for dreaming. After I set up I was writing in my book when I heard large footsteps. Similar to that of a horse. I felt a large presence outside the tent, then heard a grunting that was a combo of a pig and horse. I smiled wide, and scurried to the tent opening to see if I might catch this creature. Then I heard the sound travel across the wells river and get further off in the distance. The next morning I asked around and came to the conclusion that it was a moose. That day as I headed along the water, I saw a moose, for the very first time. He was calm and steady, and graceful in his movement.

portland

Back to the Ocean, ah. I arrived in Portland early, and sat by the beach watching the sailboats.
Played at the Dog Fish Bar and Grille
Sorcha played after Me, she put on a great show! excellent songwriting!
Met up with my friend GPP, all the way from Cambridge!
Got to meet the friends he grew up with. Rained soft that night. I thought and inquired about climbing Mt. Washington, but learned it was not an option. Interesting day of reflection and movement.

biddeford

At the community bike center. My host, Rick, helped me tune up the bike before the show. I was in a strange mood that afternoon, and when school let out, the kids came in. In an instant they had me laughing and thinking. Rick told them where I started my trek, they didn't believe the whole story. "then why don't you play a song?" the girl asked. So I did. They were bright inquisitive children, with everything to offer.

The Saco River is a very powerful water presence. I sat and took it in for a while. It's said that there is a curse... more on that later.

b-boxin

when I first got to Biddeford, I walked the bike onto a path off the bridge. These kids had a ton of talent. I happen to catch them as I was sitting by the Saco River, admiring it's strength. I asked, "you mind if I sit and watch you for a few?" the boy replied, "no, I like an audience"

Wanna know where I'm performing next?
